His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation to his position as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church and as the head of Vatican City. Pope Benedict XVI was the second Pope to resign after Pope Gregory XII in 1415. In his letter to the CBCP, the 85-year old Pope said that his oldness is a factor so that he cannot do his job well, "For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter",the Pope said.
His true name is Joseph Ratzinger. He was before a German Cardinal. He was elected by the College of Cardinals to be the 265th Pope of the Catholic Church after Blessed Pope John Paul II died in 2005."Strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me", the Pope added. This had shocked the whole world especially the big counting numbers of Catholics countries like Brazil, Mexico and Philippines. Who will be the next successor of Saint Peter?
